Residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency program is one of the most demanding residencies. If one decides to apply for the competition for the place in the residency, one has to already have two degrees – doctor of medicine (MD.), doctor of dentistry (DDS.).
The 4 year program will include oral and maxillofacial, plastic, oncological, micro- and other surgery specialities. Each resident have to full-fill minimum of required surgeries, be on call in Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital as well as Institute of Stomatology, have to have published an international article or presented final research work to the comity. These are one of many criteria, that makes an oral and maxillofacial surgery resident eligible for certification by Latvian Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Association.

While our residency program is in high demand, the available positions are only a few. Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency is for future surgeons to perform more difficult and advanced surgeries in head and neck region.
While demands from a future surgeons are high, after the completion of our residency, new surgeons are able to perform orthognatic, oncological, trauma and many other sub-fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
